EPDM Rubber roofs have a 50 year life expectancy.
EPDM has been in commercial use since the 1960s. And many of those roofs are still around today.
All membranes do have manufactures joins as supplied to us. Depending on the spacing of the joins and the size of the piece being cut off the roll sometimes there is no manufacturers join in the membrane.
All EPDM membranes whether it is Firestone, ClassicBond or SKYGUARD have these joins and they are unavoidable, however, the big advantage is that it is supplied to you in one piece as our website states which means you don't have to do any onsite joins where workmanship could be a factor.
If its going to be a few weeks before you fit the roof, we would suggest unrolling the membrane and re-rolling it longways, this will help prevent any creases forming. The adhesives and trims need to be stored indoors before fitting, rather than leaving them outside, as they can be affected by temperature fluctuations. Check out our video below for a full explanation from Sam!
We sell a wide variety of EPDM rubber flat roofing kits to our customers and try to provide the widest possible selection, with options for many different types of flat roofs available from Orangery Roofs to Garden Rooms. Check our video below for a full breakdown of what to expect in your kit! (The information about the contents of your kit can be found on the product page on our website.)
For the most part each section of the installation is easy, Gluing the membrane down with both adhesives is very straightforward and securing the trims and clips to the perimeter is as well. Watch our video for a detailed step by step breakdown so you can follow along!
Choosing the right boards for your job can be daunting with many different options available to use for flat roof decking, however some are much more highly recommended than others, in our video below, Sam covers the key differences between the most commonly used boards, OSB3 and S-Grade Plywood.
ClassicBond Roof membranes are available in two thicknesses. The Standard membrane is 1.2mm thick and the Premium membranes is 1.5mm
EPDM membranes can be installed onto a veriety of surfaces. For best results we recommend that the membrane be laid onto new Timber sheets (OSB3). This fresh new deck can however be laid stright over your existing roof covering without the need to strip the old roof .
Yes, EPDM Membranes require the substrate to be dry prior to installation. This is so the the adhesive & primers can effectively bond the rubber to roof deck. EPDM products will not adhere to wet or damp surfaces. Trapped moisture may vaporize and negatively affect the performance of the membranes.
Yes. ClassicBond EPDM holds the British Board of Agrément certificate, No. 11/4853, issued to Flex-R Ltd. The BBA carries out assessment, testing, approval and certification of products and systems for the construction industry against national requirements, internationally recognized standards or other relevant technical specifications, reviewed and reissued every 3 years.
The ClassicBond system is also fire rated, the 1.2mm EPDM has a fire rating of EXT.F.AB and the 1.5mm EPDM membrane is fire rated to EXT.F.AA. Fire rating is carried out on a variety of deck surfaces and it is important to seak the certificate that relates most accurately to your roof structure.
Classicbond EPDM membranes are identical on both sides so there is no right or wrong side when installing.
However you may sometimes find a small amount of writing printed on one side of the Rubber Membrane. It may be wise to keep this side down so an eyesore is not created.
We recommentd a minimum tempereture of 5 degrees C for EPDM installation. This is due the the WBA adhesive being water based and lower temperetures may cause the adhesive to freeze over and fail.
